Testimonials

"If you are looking to manage and maintain an organization fundamental to the vitality of the music and arts community at U.Va., look no further than this internship. Being the department's volunteer coordinator provides a unique opportunity to not only work with U.Va. students but also to work with volunteers from the greater Charlottesville community who want to remain active in the music and arts community. The chance to provide opportunities that meet a volunteer's specific needs and interests is very rewarding and the flexibility of this internship gives room to be creative and to pursue independent projects that further develops the volunteer program." ~ Michelle H., Volunteer Intern

“My internship was an awesome learning experience. It definitely helped me become familiar with Adobe Illustrator, which is the core program I use in my current job as an Expert Artist for CustomInk. I learned great interpersonal skills as I had to meet with the head of each department to discuss what they envisioned for their advertisements. It also taught me to manage the budgets of the different music departments in order to optimize their advertising potential. Overall it was a great experience and the knowledge I gained has helped me succeed in my job today.” ~

"Interns will interact daily with ad sales reps at local pubs like the Hook and C-VILLE Weekly, as well as [those] in radio. The internship prepares you in so many areas for a real career, such as time management and organization, communication skill (both written and over the phone, creative execution and review, managing budgets, working with a team, and much more! If I had not interned…it would have taken me a much longer time to adjust and complete the learning curve. I really felt ahead of the game as compared to other entry-level colleagues. Every time I reserve an ad here at Ogilvy, I think about how you taught me how to write emails, follow-up, etc. I could never thank you enough!” ~ Margaret N, Advertising Intern

“This was the most well-rounded internship I could ask for. The environment was laid back, but I had plenty of goals to achieve. The work required organization and administration, but I could then use my creative side to design ads. The skills I learned in this internship can be carried over not only into other jobs in arts administration, but also into virtually any career you can think of.” ~ Jill C., Advertising Intern

"This experience incredibly worthwhile. The Music Department is a close-knit community and I loved being a part of it. Everyone is great to work with and this was a unique outlet for my love of photography." ~ Candace R., Photography Intern
